SUMMER HEALTH CAREER AWARENESS PROGRAM
Partners
is our Health Career Awareness
Program designed to introduce the health care industry to bright,
enthusiastic High School students of Lexington County. The professionals at
Lexington Medical Center recognize the need for more than a mentoring
program. Therefore, in 1989, Partners was originated to
establish the necessary foundation and support to assist students both
practically and scholastically. We hope to provide exposure to a wide
variety of potential career choices in the health care field. By
participating in the Partners Program, students may find their
career interests confirmed or redirected towards an area in healthcare.
The following is a list of criteria
necessary for application acceptance:

Student will be a
High School Rising Junior or Rising Senior Lexington County resident or in
attendance in one of the Lexington School Districts.

2.5 GPA required
based on a 4.0 scale (must be verified by a school official)

Application
with 2 letters of recommendation displaying your genuine interest in
healthcare must be submitted by February 1, 2008
to your school Guidance Counselor OR mail to:

Acceptance into
this program requires a commitment for 3 weeks.
Mandatory Orientation
Dates :
Wednesday, June 11 - Friday, June 13, 2008
Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. each day.
Session A: June 16-20, 2008 and June 23-27, 2008
Session B: July 7-11, 2008 and July 14-18, 2008
Session C: July 21-25, 2008 and July 28-Aug 1, 2008
- RANK your choice session in priority based on
preference
- No exceptions will be made for band camp,
cheerleading camp, Governor's School, vacations, etc.
- Previous programs have brought tremendous
response and is highly competitive
- Panel interview will be scheduled for
final candidates of selection
The following is a brief outline of the Partners
Program for Summer 2008.

Three Day
MANDATORY clinical training/hospital orientation (Confidentiality,
Hospital ethics, HIPAA, Vital Signs – Blood Pressure, Heart Rate, Safety,
Group Dynamics, etc.).

Two (2) weeks of Morning Clinical
rotations. Areas may include Nursing Floors, PT/OT, Emergency Room,
Surgery, Pharmacy, Lab, Physicians Offices, Respiratory Therapy, Urgent
Care facilities, Radiology.
Two ( 2)
weeks of Afternoon classroom work/training. Activities include
presentations from Health Care professionals, tours, journal writing,
speech writing, presentations, group projects, and field trips.
Work
hours are from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday for your selected
session. A $500.00 stipend will be awarded at the successful
completion of the program.
