Office Hours & General Policies

We see patients in our office from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Our hours of operation on weekends are Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. and only for urgent care situations. No routine appointments are scheduled for the weekends.

If you need to reschedule an appointment, please give 24 hours notice. Repeated cancellations without adequate notice may result in a service charge before another appointment can be scheduled.

Typical new patient visits for Lexington Family Practice Lexington last 45-60 minutes for a complete history and physical. Typical consultation visits last 30-45 minutes. Typical follow-up visits last about 15 minutes.

Our providers try to give each patient as much time as required by their needs. This may sometimes result in your appointment being delayed. Your appointment may also run late if there are emergencies or a patient ahead of you unexpectedly has to be admitted to the hospital. While these delays can be frustrating, remember that your medical emergencies will also take priority over routine office visits should the need arise.

If you have a particularly large number of problems to be addressed during a visit, please be sure to tell the appointment scheduler so adequate time can be allocated. In some cases, it may be necessary to schedule a subsequent appointment to handle some problems to avoid making other patients' appointments unduly late.

Prescription Refills

Prescription Refills are handled by nursing staff between and after patients have been seen in the office. Sometimes this may take up to 24 hours to accomplish depending on how busy our staff is. Please do not wait until you are completely out of a medication before calling for a refill. Our physicians, when on call, will not be able to phone in refills after our normal business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our staff would need to be able to review your chart to make sure the prescription is called for and is accurately phoned in and recorded in your medical record. Occasionally, a physician on call may telephone in an emergency prescription, but narcotics or other controlled substances will not be called in by telephone when our office is closed either during the evening, weekends, or holidays.

Emergencies/Urgent problems

We have a physician on call at all times. In some cases, the physician on call will be a physician who is not a member of our practice, but rather is a member of our on-call group. When our office is open, our staff will pull your chart and bring it to the attention of your physician, if available, or the on-call physician if your physician is not available.

If you have a true medical emergency, call 911 to get rapid access to the Emergency Medical Service system rather than delay medical care by trying to reach our office or physician on-call. The Emergency Department physicians can reach our physicians if necessary to assist with or take over your care after you have been stabilized. Our physicians only care for patients at the Lexington Medical Center. There may be cases, however, where your medical condition requires that you go to the closest hospital emergency department. We will provide records and whatever help we can to your treating physicians at the other hospital and will of course be happy to continue to care for you after hospital discharge. In some cases, if your condition permits and you desire to, you can be transferred to our care at Lexington Medical Center once your condition has been adequately stabilized to permit a safe transfer.

Medical Records

Each office visit or procedure will result in a typed dictated note by our physicians. Unless otherwise directed by the patient, a copy will be mailed to any other physicians we know are treating you. This provides for better continuity of care and helps to prevent medication or other errors in patient care arising out of having more than one treating physician. Patients can direct us to send copies of all or part of their record by signing a release of information form giving us permission to do so. Large requests may necessitate a copying fee.

Filling out forms

Our providers try to accommodate patient requests to complete various medical forms on behalf of our patients. In some cases, a fee will be required for the time required.

Fees and Payments

Our fees are adjusted annually or as required by the government or various insurers by contract. We expect payment at the time services are rendered and can accept payment in cash or by check or credit card. Many insurers now require us, by contract, to collect co-pays and/or other fees before service is rendered. We will file insurance claims for either private or government insurers, but the patient is primarily responsible for making sure their medical services are paid for. We understand that illnesses or injuries may sometimes make it difficult to pay a bill on time and we can usually work out payment plans when necessary.
