Fitness Instructor Training Program
Health Directions of Lexington Medical Center offers a comprehensive fitness instructor
training program developed according to nationally recognized standards. This weekend course will
prepare participants to teach fitness classes that are safe and
effective by incorporating the five components of health-related
fitness. It will also assist in preparing individuals wishing to
acquire the foundation knowledge to attempt a personal training
certification.

Steps to Completing Training
- Attend the full training weekend program.
- Pass take home exam in one month.
- Complete 12-16 hours of practice teaching with Health Directions Apprenticeship Training Programs (ATPs) in Step/Low/Sculpt/Yoga or mentor with an instructor of your choice.
- Provide current adult CPR certification.
- Successfully complete teaching a one-hour fitness class by video review or on-site evaluation. If you successfully completed a Health Directions ATP workshop, this step is included.
- You have six months to complete this process.

Apprenticeship Training Programs (ATPs) teach you practical
skills required to lead your own class. Call

- Step - Learn Step Reebok moves, terminology and how to teach
a step class
- Low Impact - Instructors teach you the basics of
choreography and how to lead a low impact class.
- Sculpt - Learn how to teach resistance training in a group
fitness setting.
- Yoga - Review the 16 basic postures of yoga required to
teach your own yoga class.
