Checklist For Day Of Surgery

  • Take a shower or bath the evening before or the day of surgery. Brush your teeth the morning of surgery but do not swallow water. Good hygiene helps to prevent postoperative wound infections.
  • Take only the medicine prescribed by your physician with a small sip of water when you get up.
  • Wear comfortable clothes to the hospital. You may want to bring pajamas and a robe to wear home so you don't have to change again when you get home.
  • Do not apply make-up or nail polish.
  • Remove contact lenses, hairpieces and piercings.
  • Leave your valuables at home such as money, jewelry, watches and rings.
  • Please bring a pillow and a blanket for your ride home.
  • Arrive at the hospital 1 hour and 30 minutes before the time of your surgery. Report to the new east main entrance.
  • If you are to remain in the hospital following your surgery leave your suitcase in the car.
  • Before your surgery, you will be taken to the waiting room. There is a volunteer who will assist you.
  • Before surgery, you will be taken to the pre-op area to prepare you for surgery. Parents of young children will be allowed to stay with the child until the time of surgery. Children may bring a small quiet toy with them.
  • Drinks and light snacks are permitted in both the out-patient and in-patient waiting rooms. However, please keep in mind that there are patients waiting for surgery that cannot eat or drink anything prior to surgery. Therefore, we ask that you limit your snacks to foods such as crackers, pretzels, cookies, and foods that do not have a strong aroma.
  • A canteen as shown on map is available for your convenience.
  • In consideration for the patients and their families, please keep waiting area quiet and speak softly.
