Legacy of Care for Our Community

Our story is one of a community caring for its neighbors, friends and family. “Lexington County Hospital” opened in 1971 and quickly became a leader in providing quality health care to the surrounding community.

We were the first hospital in our area with satellite health facilities and the first hospital in our area to establish a health education department for the community.

Growing to Meet Needs

By the 1980s, we offered programs to address needs of citizens of Lexington County including outpatient education classes on managing disease and skills such as newborn care and home nursing.

First Satellite Outpatient Facility in the State

We also extended our reach into the community by opening the first satellite outpatient facility of its kind in the state with services including surgery, urgent care, lab, radiology and physical therapy. This growth and addition of services led board members to change the hospital’s name to “Lexington Medical Center.”

Community Medical Centers

In the 1990s, we expanded our network of care by establishing four additional community medical centers in small towns around Lexington County; these facilities gave residents access to after hours care in their own neighborhoods for the first time.

Lexington Medical Center Foundation Established

We established the Lexington Medical Center Foundation, which raises money for community initiatives including nursing scholarships, women’s health issues and prescriptions for indigent patients.

Opened Largest Community Medical Center

In 2001, we opened our largest community medical center in Lexington. This center is larger than the hospital was in 1971.

Today: Advanced Technology & Medical Firsts

Today, we are a modern medical complex that is home to advanced technology and many medical firsts for South Carolina from pioneering cancer care to incisionless surgery.

But our mission has remained the same: to provide quality health services that meet the needs of our community.
