Comprehensive Programs
With an ever-increasing shortage of qualified heath care providers, Lexington Medical Center recognizes that our community has a responsibility to educate the doctors and nurses of tomorrow. Our wide array of student programs include shadowing opportunities, service learning, speaking engagements, tours, internships, and Co-ops.
School-To-Career Program - Health Care Shadowing for Students
Twice a month on reserved days high school students are paired with a health care professional from their selected area of interest. LMC hosts over 200 students a year through a variety of diverse health care fields.
Internship
Sponsored by LMC Workforce Development and coordinated with the District Representative, high school students can gain experience in the health care profession that correlates with their career goals. Through their internships, students experience the rigors and rewards of health care. This non-paid internship offers students curriculum credit based on district requirements.
Partners
Partners is our Health Career Awareness Program designed to introduce the health care industry to bright, enthusiastic high school students of Lexington County – an intense rewarding summer program.
Tours
Explore the many disciplines in health care through first hand, face-to-face, behind the scenes experience.
Speakers Bureau
LMC understands that students want to hear from the professionals first-hand. To fill that need, we join forces with local educators to bring heath care's realities and wonders to life in the classroom. Last year alone, LMC staff participated in over 500 educational lectures.
Teacher Field Study
To anticipate the future needs of the workforce, educators need to experience the rapidly changing world of health care. Through educational partnerships, LMC’s field studies keep teachers abreast of new developments in the industry, arming them with current information to pass on to their students.
Teachers in the Workplace
LMC partners with Midlands Education and Business Alliance to introduce educators in a practical manner to the diversity of health care careers. Educators spend a week interning while learning the strengths needed to successfully achieve a career in health care and earn graduate credit.
Career and Science Fairs
Every year, LMC participates in each requesting educational institutions' Career and Science Fairs. Collectively, LMC works together with schools and promotes exposure of the multitudes of health care disciplines through the study of career clusters.
