Arumugam T. Perumal, MD, MRCP, earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in Chennai, India and completed his internship at Government General Hospital, which is also in Chennai. He went on to serve as a senior house officer at several hospitals in the United Kingdom and at a hospital in Saudi Arabia, specializing in geriatrics, general medicine, hematology and internal medicine. He also served as a consulting physician at Port Hedland Regional Hospital in Western Australia, providing inpatient care, managing outpatient clinics, training junior doctors and teaching medical students.

Dr. Perumal’s career brought him to the United States in 1993 to complete an internal medicine residency at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, New York. After completing his residency, he founded a hospitalist practice at Kent County Memorial Hospital in Warwick, Rhode Island, which currently includes 35 hospitalists and seven physician assistants, and served as a medical director at Quincy Medical Center in Boston. Board certified in internal medicine, he has more than 30 years of management, administrative and patient care experience.
