Taking Your Newborn Home
An important part of our job is to prepare your family to return home as quickly and safely as possible. With a thumbs-up from your medical team — your doctor or midwife, and baby’s pediatrician — you can begin life as a family in the comfort of your home.
Hospital Release Process
Before you leave the hospital, nursing staff will share any discharge or follow-up instructions with you. You will be asked to sign the discharge instruction sheet and we’ll provide you with a copy you can use for reference.
Back at Home
Adjusting to parenthood isn’t a cakewalk. We have helpful home services that can smooth some of the turbulence out of what can be a bumpy ride.
All mothers delivering at Lexington Medical Center are visited by a board-certified lactation consultant free of charge. Our lactation consultants provide follow-up care for breastfeeding mothers and are available for consultations after mother and baby return home.
Postpartum doulas can provide new mothers with breastfeeding support and advice, newborn care and assistance with household duties, often in the first days and weeks after the family goes home. Doula care is scheduled in four hour increments and requires a small fee.
