Where do Patients Stay?
Our Inpatient Oncology Unit is on the 8th floor of the hospital’s South Wing.
Our Team
Our staff includes 64 dedicated staff members, including 12 who are board certified in Oncology and a team of registered nurses, nursing assistants and secretaries, providing a 34-bed unit of comprehensive, compassionate care to patients who require rigorous treatment.
Care Managers
The Oncology Unit operates under a care management system that assigns each patient a care manager, a registered nurse, for the duration of his or her stay. This care manager ensures that patients have a well-defined and easily understood plan of care and that they are making progress toward identified goals and outcomes.
Holistic Care
The care manager coordinates patient care with the entire health care team. This holistic care is a collaborative effort between the unit staff and other disciplines such as respiratory therapy, physical therapy, clinical nutrition, radiation oncology and medical social services.
Nursing Expertise
To ensure the highest quality care, all nurses employed on the unit are certified in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration through the Oncology Nursing Society’s coursework. In addition, a clinical mentor serves as an active resource for all nursing staff and ensures that they remain competent and fully qualified in clinical skills specific to oncology.
Support staff, made up of secretaries and nursing technicians, provides ancillary assistance in transcribing orders, assisting patients with basic needs, etc., permitting the RNs time to perform their duties more efficiently.
