Anatomic Pathology Laboratory
Processes Tissue & Cytology Samples
The Anatomic Pathology Laboratory processes tissue samples (biopsies, portions of organs, organs and autopsies) and cytology samples (cell smears and suspensions) so that our pathologists can offer diagnoses to guide current and future treatments by your doctor.
Since 1971, we have been the only Midlands hospital providing these services on the weekend to ensure timely diagnoses on behalf of our patients.
Diagnosis, positive or negative, is assured over 90 percent of the time; and expert consultations are necessary in 1.5 percent or less of cases.
Cancer Case Studies & Lymph Node Dissections
The accuracy of this study is critical for the rest of a cancer patient’s life. Therefore extra processing time is often required for this study. A special fixative solution is used.
Bone Marrow Diagnosis
Diagnosis is assured by one procedure over 98 percent of the time. This is due to the testing of the peripheral blood specimen, the bone marrow aspirate specimen and the bone marrow biopsy specimen. We maintain a goal of preliminary same-day reporting. We give the final diagnosis the next day.
