Services

This component of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine performs laboratory tests and analysis on blood, urine, feces, other body fluids and cultures from any body site. It also provides blood and blood products for transfusion.

Qualified Pathologists

Our highly qualified pathologists, assisted by medical technologists, ensure accuracy with their skills in chemistry, microbiology, hematology and molecular pathology. The dedicated work these practitioners do is well-supported by Lexington Medical Center’s Laboratory Testing Facility and Transfusion Support.

STAT Lab

The laboratory is fully centralized and designed to function as an around-the-clock STAT lab, which allows for optimum laboratory monitoring chemotherapy and biotherapy patients. Additionally, special tests to identify infections in immunocompromised patients are available on-site with rapid turnaround on results.

Transfusion Services

In conjunction with the American Red Cross Blood Donor Program, our transfusion services routinely meet the high demand for transfusion products.

Autologous Transfusion Service

Our program was one of the first in South Carolina to provide a hospital-based autologous transfusion service for preoperative deposits of a patient’s blood and re-transfusion as well as intra-operative autotransfusion. As a result, we are fully capable of maximizing the usage of a patient’s own blood.

Patient Requesting Lab Testing

Initiated in 1986, all patient-requested lab testing is done in the fully accredited LMC Laboratories under the supervision of LMC's Clinical Pathologists. The service is presented to LMC's community so that self-requested tests can be readily available at the same high quality of technical and professional standards with which LMC’s Laboratory Service operates.
