The program is excellent for those trying to modify their risk
factors in the prevention of serious illness. Through education,
behavior modification, and exercise, you are given tools to improve
your life. Benefits available to you as a participant in the rehab
setting are:
- Improved confidence and quality of daily living
- Increased capacity for work and recreation
- Stabilization of blood pressure
- Regulation of cholesterol levels
- Improved overall muscle tone
A physician referral is required for participants in the program.
You may request a referral from your doctor. The cost of Cardiac and
Vascular Rehabilitation is reimbursed by most insurance companies.
The amount of reimbursement will vary from policy to policy.
The Exercise Program
Outpatient Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation classes start two
to four weeks after discharge from the hospital or when recommended
by your physician. Before starting the program, you will be
individually evaluated to create a plan to meet your specific goals.
During the orientation process, you will receive a personal exercise
prescription which designates the time, intensity, and the frequency
of exercise.
Exercise classes are scheduled several times a week. The
available equipment includes:
- Stationary Bicycles
- Treadmills
- Rowing Ergometers
- Recumbent Steppers
- Resistance Weight Training
You will be evaluated routinely and your exercise routine will
gradually advance as your activity tolerance improves.
Educational Classes
Education is as important as exercise. The program offers classes
that address the disease process, nutrition, exercise, stress
management, smoking cessation and medications.
Heart to Heart
Heart to Heart is the support arm of Cardiac and Vascular
Rehabilitation at Lexington Medical Center. This group offers
educational and support opportunities for rehab participants, their
family and friends. The group meets monthly and sponsors a wide
variety of programs designed to be in tune to the needs of the
participants. Heart to Heart has something for everyone.
