Rehabilitation Services

Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation is designed to help persons with conditions such as heart disease, vascular disease, renal disease and diabetes attain a healthier and more productive life. This includes individuals who have had heart attacks, open-heart surgery, stable angina, vascular disease or other problems.
The program is excellent for those trying to modify their risk factors in the prevention of serious illness. Through education, behavior modification, and exercise, you are given tools to improve your life. Benefits available to you as a participant in the rehab setting are:
  • Improved confidence and quality of daily living
  • Increased capacity for work and recreation
  • Stabilization of blood pressure
  • Regulation of cholesterol levels
  • Improved overall muscle tone

A physician referral is required for participants in the program. You may request a referral from your doctor. The cost of Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation is reimbursed by most insurance companies. The amount of reimbursement will vary from policy to policy.

The Exercise Program

Outpatient Cardiac and Vascular Rehabilitation classes start two to four weeks after discharge from the hospital or when recommended by your physician. Before starting the program, you will be individually evaluated to create a plan to meet your specific goals. During the orientation process, you will receive a personal exercise prescription which designates the time, intensity, and the frequency of exercise.

Exercise classes are scheduled several times a week. The available equipment includes:

  • Stationary Bicycles
  • Treadmills
  • Rowing Ergometers
  • Recumbent Steppers
  • Resistance Weight Training

You will be evaluated routinely and your exercise routine will gradually advance as your activity tolerance improves.

Educational Classes

Education is as important as exercise. The program offers classes that address the disease process, nutrition, exercise, stress management, smoking cessation and medications.
