Lexington Medical Center (LMC) is dedicated to improving the health of our community through the early detection of disease and illness.  By taking a proactive approach to healthcare, LMC is helping to lower health care costs for everyone, save lives and improve the overall health of our community.

One way we achieve this goal is by providing free cancer health screenings throughout the year.  In 2005, our dedicated Community Outreach team procured 4,152 PSA’s and provided physician guidance for over 253 patients who were faced with abnormal values.

One significant component of this cancer-screening program involved a partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores.  Lexington Medical Center arranged PSA screening at each of the area Lowe’s stores beginning in late August leading up to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September.  Community Outreach set up the screening on-site for three-hour blocks and through a partnership with Clear Channel Radio Stations, encouraged men to stop by the Lowe’s stores for a free PSA screening.  The program culminated with “Men’s Night Out,” in September where more than 1,000 men attended an educational evening about prostate cancer awareness.  The concept of the program has since been adopted by Lowe’s and replicated around the nation through their chain of stores.

Free Health Screenings offered include:

  • Blood Pressure Assessment

  • Lipid Profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides)Screening test for coronary heart disease.

  • Glucose (blood sugar level):  Screening test for risk of developing diabetes

  • Iron Profile (iron and iron-binding capacity):  Screening test for iron deficiency, anemia and for iron overload disorders or Hemochromatosis.

  • Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA):  Screening for prostate cancer is recommended annually for men age 40 or older, especially African-Americans, with a family history of prostate cancer.

  • Fecal Occult Blood (hemocult card):  Screening test for colorectal cancer recommended for everyone age 50 or older.

Each individuals results are mailed confidentially along with directions of obtaining an explanation of the results.  Where needed, our nurse recommends follow-up measures so that anyone who has a health concern get resources for future prevention or further diagnosis and treatment.  Screening participants must be at least 18 years of age.

Women’s Imaging Mobile Mammography

We’re a leading medical center in the promotion of breast health and we want to make mammography screening available to every woman in our community.  Our mobile mammography service will come to your office, church or school to perform mammography screening in a convenient and comfortable setting.  Each participant is responsible for her own payment, which is usually covered by insurance.  Mammography is recommended for all women age 40 or older annually.

Pixi Bone Density Scans

Pixi Bone Density Scans are also available on the Mobile Mammography Unit.  There is a fee for this test however insurance can be filed.

FLU Shots

Community Outreach also provides on-site flu shots at area businesses, churches, schools, and recreation centers.  These “clinics” can be scheduled each year during the months of November and December.  This is jus another way Lexington Medical Center takes a proactive approach to the healthcare of our community.

If you are interested in scheduling any of these services, contact LMC Community Outreach at (803) 936-8850.
