Lexington Medical
Center (LMC) is dedicated to improving the health of our community
through the early detection of disease and illness. By taking a
proactive approach to healthcare, LMC is helping to lower health care
costs for everyone, save lives and improve the overall health of our
community.
One way we achieve
this goal is by providing free cancer health screenings throughout the
year. In 2005, our dedicated Community Outreach team procured 4,152
PSA’s and provided physician guidance for over 253 patients who were
faced with abnormal values.
One significant
component of this cancer-screening program involved a partnership with
Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores. Lexington Medical Center arranged PSA
screening at each of the area Lowe’s stores beginning in late August
leading up to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September. Community
Outreach set up the screening on-site for three-hour blocks and
through a partnership with Clear Channel Radio Stations, encouraged
men to stop by the Lowe’s stores for a free PSA screening. The
program culminated with “Men’s Night Out,” in September where more
than 1,000 men attended an educational evening about prostate cancer
awareness. The concept of the program has since been adopted by
Lowe’s and replicated around the nation through their chain of stores.
