PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL LIBRARY
The library
contains patient care resources in the clinical areas of the medical
and nursing specialties, subspecialties, and allied health. Reliable
and current sites on the Internet are additional sources for
information and articles about cancer and other medical topics. The
library staff searches the published literature, locates resources,
and distributes the information on request. When the library does not
own items, they are obtained from other libraries. Normally it takes 3
to 10 working days to receive articles. When the request is for a
clinical emergency, often that article may be faxed within 2 hours.
Library users can search the World Wide Web for information from such
organizations as the National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer
Society. The library subscribes to the electronic database CINAHL,
Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature. The WWW
provides free access to MEDILINE through the PubMed database. The
National Library of Medicine maintains PubMed.
The library
is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Information may

The
Community Health Information Library
- The Community Health Information Library (CHIL) opened in 1997. The
CHIL is a collection of health information resources in nonmedical
terms or consumer health information. The CHIL provides access to
information about prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many types of
cancer. In the past, information about cancer was the most frequently
requested topic. Consumer health information is available in various
forms-printed books, pamphlets, brochures, videos, and on the
Internet.
The
Professional Library at Lexington Medical Center contains
approximately 1,000 books and 500 audio-visual titles. The library
also subscribes to approximately 200 journals including the following
