The Open MRI
The newest technology in the Midlands to compliment our powerful closed MRI.

The Open MRI at Lexington Medical Center is completely open on all four sides so you will not feel confined. Its size can accommodate very large patients, and its openness is friendly to children.

Best of all, this advanced Open MRI uses a more powerful magnet than all other "open-air" units.

As a result, pictures of the inner body are clearer, with more detail, allowing doctors to diagnose medical conditions earlier and more accurately.

The difference between MRIs and what it means to you.
1) Closed MRI 2) Open-Air-Type MRI 3) Open-MRI
  1. Traditional Closed with High-Field Magnetic Strength (1.5 Tesla). Traditional Closed MRIs represent nine out of ten MRI machines now in use. These units produce high-quality images, and are the standard in the industry.
  2. Open-Air-Type MRI With Low Field Magnetic Strength. Some MRI machines have open sides and ends. But most "open" units also have low-strength magnets not nearly as powerful as the tunnel-type magnet (#1) or the advanced Open-MRI (#3). This low magnet strength results in lower quality images with less detail, providing less of the information doctors need to diagnose your condition accurately.
  3. Open-MRI With Mid-Field Magnetic Strength
    (.7 Tesla).
The advanced Open-MRI at Lexington Medical Center is completely open to eliminate patient claustrophobia. In addition, its magnet is much stronger than most other open-air-type MRIs, resulting in greater image detail. Doctors receive the information they need for an accurate diagnosis, while you relax in complete open-air comfort...the best of both worlds.
