| Interventional Radiology is sometimes referred to as
Special Procedures. These procedures are more involved than the
typical procedures performed in other areas of radiology. The
radiology department has a state-of-the-art interventional room that
includes a flat panel x-ray. This allows our highly trained staff to
get the clearest images possible. Some procedures include:
Angioplasty/Stent (opening a narrowing or closed vessel)
Vertebroplasty (strengthening weakened vertebra)
The staff in this area is dedicated exclusively to interventional
procedures and has more than 70 years of combined experience.
Lexington Medical Center is proud to offer the newest technology in
interventional radiology with the addition of a second
state-of-the-art vascular x-ray system. This biplane room enhances our
treatment of patients suffering from strokes and other vascular
disorders. The fully digital system allows the physician to view
anatomy in two planes simultaneously and exposes the patient to less
radiation.
This fall we will recover our interventional patients in our
Radiology Observation Care Unit or ROCU. The ROCU will provide the
patients with quality nursing care within our department.
What should I expect?
Prior to the day of your procedure you will have a pre-procedure
interview with a nurse form our interventional department. During that
interview proper preparations will be discussed as well as a detailed
description of your specific procedure. The nurse will answer any
questions you may have and will give you a run down of what to expect
on your procedure day. You may also visit our lab for blood work.
After your procedure you will be taken to our recovery area before
being released home.
Each procedure is very unique so if you would like more information
on your specific procedure please visit the Society of Interventional
Radiology’s web page at www.sirweb.org
