Posted by: Jennifer Wilson, Public Relations Manager | September 05, 2011

West Columbia, S.C. – Lexington Medical Center has been recognized as one of the Best Midlands Companies for Working Moms in an annual competition sponsored by the March of Dimes and Greater Columbia Business Monthly magazine.

Businesses throughout the Midlands were invited to apply for the distinction by submitting an application detailing their company’s policies and culture that help employees balance work and family responsibilities.

Lexington Medical Center, with an 85% female staff and approximately 5,200 employees, was praised for its daycare center on the hospital campus, areas for nursing mothers, adoption programs, flexible scheduling, healthy cafeteria menus and subsidized gym memberships.

“We are delighted that Lexington Medical Center is among the organizations in the Midlands demonstrating a commitment to providing a healthy and nurturing environment that promotes behaviors leading to healthy pregnancies and healthy babies,” said Erin Galloway, Executive Director of the Midlands Division of the March of Dimes.

The application process included a 20-question survey about corporate policies and culture that promote employee wellness and family-work life balance.  The seven winners of the competition are showcased in the September issue of Greater Columbia Business Monthly

“The commitment to providing an outstanding place of employment to help moms balance their career and family life has made a tremendous difference in the lives of many working moms,” said Rhonda Hewson, publisher of Greater Columbia Business Monthly.
