WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. – Lexington Medical Center's Sleep Solutions has received national program accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Lexington medical Center's Sleep Solutions on fulfilling the high standards required for receiving accreditation as a sleep disorders center,” AASM president Dr. Clete Kushida said. “The center is a significant resource to the local medical community and will provide academic and scientific value in addition to the highest quality care for patients suffering from sleep disorders.”
Lexington Medical Center's Sleep Solutions provides comprehensive care for a full range of sleep disorders using a multidisciplinary approach. Highly trained physicians and technical staff evaluate, treat and provide follow-up care for such sleep related disorders as hypersomnia, insomnia, narcolepsy, periodic limb movement disorder, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea and snoring. These treatments help patients receive the necessary eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night, preventing irritability and difficulty staying awake at work or in school and improving memory.
To receive a five-year accreditation from the AASM, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. The accreditation process involves detailed inspection of a center's facility and staff, including an evaluation of testing procedures, patient contacts and physician training. Additionally, the facility's goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.
“We are pleased that Lexington Medical Center physicians and patients have the opportunity to use the services of our new nationally accredited sleep center,” said Michelle Brooks, Registered Polysomnograhic Technologist and Sleep Solutions coordinator. “Our accreditation acknowledges that we deliver the highest standards of care and service, for which we are very proud.”
Lexington Medical Center's Sleep Solutions is located at 109 West Hospital Drive, West Columbia.
