Summer Health Careers Work Study

About Our Partners Program

Lexington Medical Center's summer health career awareness program is sponsored by the caring donors of the LMC Foundation. The program is designed to introduce the health care industry to enthusiastic, bright high school students of Lexington County, who have a genuine interest in a health care career. Participants complete three rotations through a variety of clinical areas, learning about various careers in healthcare including professional and allied health careers such as Radiologic Technologist, Physical Therapist, Surgical Technologist, Nursing, and administration roles.

Do I qualify?

Yes, if you meet the below qualifications:

  • Lexington County resident or attending a school within one of the Lexington School Districts or a dependent of a Lexington Medical Center employee.
  • Rising high school junior or senior at the time of application submission.
  • 2.5 GPA based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Demonstrate sincere interest in a health care field.

Session Details

Students will be exposed to the day to day operations of the hospital through clinical rotations, interactive workshops, and field trips. Core hours are 8:30am to 12:30 pm Monday through Friday. In addition to two afternoons from 1:30 to 3:00pm. Afternoon activities dates and times during the sessions may vary.

Clinical Rotations will be in the morning and may include patient floors, physician offices or Urgent Care as well as the Emergency, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Cath Lab and Radiology departments. Afternoon activities, field trips and Friday seminars will include presentations from healthcare professionals, tours, projects and interactive workshops.

Partners are required to provide their own transportation to and from Lexington Medical Center. However, if needed transportation will be provided to the offsite afternoon activities and field trips.

Can students take time off for other commitments?

No. The Partners program is very competitive, students must commit for the entire three weeks. Exceptions will not be made for band camp, cheer camp, Governor's school, vacations or other summer activities.

College Scholarships

One senior from each Lexington County High school and one senior from a home or private school will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.
