Bio

Joseph J. Lawton III, MD, FACC, FSCAI, is a South Carolina native who received a bachelor’s degree in French from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his cardiology training at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill with fellowships in cardiology and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Lawton has served as chief of Cardiology at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, and has been published in Catheterization & Cardiovascular Digest and Journal of Clinical Outcomes Management. Board certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease, he is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the American Society of Echocardiography and the American College of Physicians. His special interests include interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular disease diagnosis and intervention.
