A magna cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina Honors College in Columbia, Dr. Cauthen earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. He then completed his residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and a pulmonary/ critical care fellowship at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston- Salem, North Carolina.
Dr. Cauthen has more than 10 years of experience providing specialized care for respiratory diseases, sleep disorders and chronic illnesses. He is board certified in internal medicine, critical care, sleep medicine and pulmonary medicine, and he is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, among other organizations. He also has a special interest in advanced lung disease, including interstitial lung disease and pulmonary hypertension.
Alongside the board-certified physicians and highly skilled staff at Carolina Pulmonary, Dr. Cauthen offers a full range of services in the diagnosis and treatment of adult acute and chronic lung disease, as well as quality critical care and sleep medicine services. He also evaluates, diagnoses and treats sleeps disorders, such as sleep apnea, snoring and restless leg syndrome, among other conditions, at Lexington Sleep Solutions.
