Dr. Dumont earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, before attending medical school at Emory University in Atlanta. He then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, serving as chief resident and receiving the W. Dr. Dumont also traveled to the Alps Surgery Institute in Annecy, France, for a fellowship with Laurent Lafosse, MD, a world-renowned leader and innovator in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. While there, he learned leading-edge techniques in minimally invasive arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Dr. Dumont went on to complete a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and completed additional training in hip arthroscopy and hip preservation with J.W. Thomas Byrd, MD, at the Nashville Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Tennessee. He also has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Dumont specializes in the treatment of hip, shoulder and knee injuries. He uses minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques to help patients return to everyday activities. Dr. Dumont also has expertise in treating shoulder injuries, such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder labral tears, shoulder impingement and shoulder dislocations or instability, as well as treating knee ligament and meniscus injuries.

Dr. Dumont authors multiple peer reviewed manuscripts and collaborates with colleagues to better understand sports medicine injuries and improve treatment options for patients. He has presented research findings and taught at national and international educational orthopaedic meetings. In addition to his own research, he is a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Journal, the Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Hip Preservation Surgery.

Dr. Dumont serves on committees for several orthopaedic organizations: South Carolina Orthopaedic Association’s Leadership Council; Arthroscopy Journal’s Editorial Board; International Society for Sports Medicine’s Nominating Committee; and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine’s Council of Delegates.
