Bio

Dr. Cates graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, and earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. He then completed an anesthesia residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He also completed his critical-care fellowship there.

A diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Cates is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He has certifications in advanced cardiac life support and basic life support, as well as instructs these courses.

Dr. Cates most recently served as an assistant professor of Anesthesiology, Division of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Florida, and as an attending anesthesiology physician, supervising residents, certified registered nurse anesthetists and anesthesiology assistants in the operating rooms for all specialties. He also served as an attending physician in the intensive care units for the University of Florida, supervising fellows, residents, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Dr. Cates joins the team of board-certified physicians at Lexington Critical Care to provide comprehensive critical care to inpatients at Lexington Medical Center. These specially trained physicians reflect the hospital’s commitment to offering advanced medicine and compassionate care to patients while they are in the hospital.
