Jim Guilfoyle, Outdoorsman and Heart Patient

Physical fitness can have a significantly positive effect on outcomes.

An avid cyclist, outdoorsman and pilot, Jim was the picture of good health. However, a heart murmur led to a diagnosis of a congenital aortic value defect.

Jim had successful aortic valve replacement and aorta repair at Lexington Medical Center. His recovery was greatly aided by his excellent fitness, so much so that he was walking just one day after surgery and returned to work in eight weeks.

"Everyone who took care of me at the hospital was unbelievable," he said.

Jim is back on track with an active lifestyle. He's thrived in Lexington Medical Center's Cardiac Rehabilitation program.
