Pete Calamas, Cardiac Rehabilitation Patient

Rehabilitation offers a new way to live.

Pete Calamas thought life, as he knew it, was over. After collapsing, the 54-year-old underwent open heart surgery and was diagnosed with high blood pressure and diabetes.

Fortunately, Pete enrolled in Lexington Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation. Working with the program’s clinicians he began an exercise regimen, attended health classes and learned to manage diabetes.

“They really cared about my well-being, my recovery and the lifestyle changes I needed to make,” he says.

Pete has lost more than 90 pounds. He exercises five times a week and has learned to eat healthy. Today his blood pressure and diabetes are under control.
