Jennifer Wilson, Public Relations Manager · January 13, 2014

West Columbia, S.C. – Lexington Medical Center is accepting applications for its 2014 Partners Program. This highly selective summer internship program allows the brightest high school students from Lexington County the opportunity to explore careers in health care and to work alongside hospital staff in clinical areas. In its 24th year, the Partners Program has become a popular tradition at the hospital.

Partners will rotate through three clinical areas during the three-week program.  Partners must be rising juniors and seniors from Lexington County. The dates for this summer’s program are:  Session A: June 9 – June 27 and Session B: July 7 – July 25. Students will attend one of the two sessions. Program hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The application deadline is February 15, 2014.

Students selected for the program will participate in real-world career experiences by helping with bed making, checking vital signs, stocking supplies and general duties while being supervised by a mentor. In addition, students will take part in field studies including a tour of the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, Midlands Technical College Health Science Programs, LMC Laboratory and a team building workshop. Outstanding partners who meet specific criteria will be selected to receive a $1,000 book scholarship at the end of the sessions.

The Partners Program is made possible through the Lexington Medical Center Foundation. Since its beginning in 1990, many of the participants have returned to Lexington Medical Center as clinicians upon completing their education.

The application process includes a written application and an interview with hospital staff members. To apply, students can download the application on lexmed.com or visit their school guidance counselor’s office to obtain one. More than 100 aspiring health care professionals apply to be part of the Partners Program each year. Sixty students are selected.
