West Columbia, S.C. – Olympic gold medalist and nationally acclaimed University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley will be the keynote speaker at “Hoops and Hope with Dawn Staley,” an event benefitting the Lexington Medical Center Foundation on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a sponsor reception and a Fund Fair, showcasing the programs and services the Lexington Medical Center Foundation provides in our community. The dinner and program is at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. Sponsorships are also available.
A three-time Olympic gold medalist, Staley has been the University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach since 2008. Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have achieved honors including a first-ever #1 national ranking and an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2015. Staley has also tripled the number of fans attending women’s basketball games at the university.
Staley is one of the most decorated participants in United States women’s basketball history. She has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and recognized by the WNBA as one of the Top 15 influential players in league history. As a college player in the 1990’s, Staley was a standout at the University of Virginia. She was also a member of three United States Olympics teams, earning gold medals in 1996, 2000 and 2004. Her professional playing experience includes the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting and Houston Comets, where she earned accolades for her skills, sportsmanship and leadership.
In Columbia, Staley encourages her teams to pursue community service opportunities, and also founded Innersole, which aims to provide new sneakers to children who are homeless and children in need.
