Message from the Program Director
Dear Prospective Residents,
Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our Internal Medicine Residency Program. As the inaugural Program Director, it is both an honor and a privilege to be part of this new chapter of Graduate Medical Education in our institution’s long-standing commitment to excellence in healthcare and service to our community.
Lexington Medical Center is in the heart of the Midlands of South Carolina, in West Columbia, SC and is one of the most successful integrated health care systems in the Southeast. Our goal is to integrate our Internal Medicine residents into the flourishing physician practices and clinical hospital services in a manner that enhances the value and quality of the hospital system for its patients and this region of South Carolina.
On July 1, 2026, Lexington Medical Center plans to launch our Internal Medicine Residency Program. We will be joining other Graduate Medical Education programs including Family Medicine and a Transitional Year Training Program which are currently in their second year of accreditation. The Lexington Medical Center Internal Medicine Program is currently in review by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. We plan to start recruiting for our first class of 13 residents in the Fall of 2025; training will begin on July 1, 2026.
In collaboration with our sponsoring institution, residents who choose to train here will have the opportunity to be involved in the inception and development of the program. With support from all the subspecialities of medicine here at Lexington Medical Center, we will provide high yield training experiences in Critical Care Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Ambulatory Care, and Cardiology among many others. If you should come here to train, you will have access to a broad and varied experience of medicine.
Our state-of-the-art clinic space is currently under construction. It was designed with the goal to foster a collaborative learning environment for resident training, efficient patient care delivery, and encourage quality faculty precepting and mentorship. Overall, we are excited and highly prepared to recruit and train our first Internal Medicine Residents with the goal to graduate a class of highly skilled, competent, and confident physicians who will continue to care for the patients of the Midlands for years to come.
